Calton playgroup is a community based playgroup managed by a committee of parents, carers, and staff and has been operating since 1984. We hold a charitable status and are a non-profit making organisation, reinvesting all the funds and fees back into the service we deliver.
All our staff have excellent experience and qualifications and are dedicated to their roles, the staff regularly update their skills to maintain continuing professional development. We are committed to providing children with quality care and education in a safe and stimulating environment, and encourage them to become independent learners by developing their self-confidence, initiative and personal responsibility.
Our premises which are situated on the grounds of Calton primary school, are bright, spacious and well equipped. They consist of three play rooms, one which is dedicated to physical play, we also have a fenced off area out the front of the premises for outside play.
We enjoy close links with school and have use to their playground, fields and forest area.
The early years foundation stage
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework which sets the standards which the early years providers must meet.
It ensures that all children learn and develop well, and are kept healthy and safe.
We ensure that all seven areas of learning and development are covered through observation, planning and assessment.
They are as follows:-
- Prime areas. Personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, physical development.
- Specific areas. Literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, expressive arts and design.
The last Ofsted inspection was held in July 2018 and we received an extremely positive report, with areas of outstanding practice and all other areas good.
An up to date copy of the playgroup Ofsted report can be viewed on this website or feel free to ask a member of staff to view a paper copy.
